TRAVEL TIPS: Navigating DFW Airport

Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport is one of the largest and busiest airports in the world.  According to DFWAirport.com, there are 7 runways, 5 terminals, 174 gates and approximately 152,000 passengers per day.  That's a lot of traffic!  But have no fear, this airport really isn't hard to maneuver.  Innovations like the SkyLink train, make navigating this airport a breeze.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words; how about a video?  Below are a few video podcasts produced by DFW Airport.  Enjoy!

Grand Hyatt DFW Honored - TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Awards

Yesterday, TripAdvisor® revealed the winners of the 2010 TripAdvisor® Travelers' Choice® Awards.  I'm happy to report that the Grand Hyatt DFW made the list again - adding to our collection of TripAdvisor® awards from 2006 and 2008.

Why are we so excited about this?  Well, to take it directly from a TripAdvisor® press release: "Unlike any other hotel honors in the world, TripAdvisor® Travelers' Choice® winners are based on the millions of real and unbiased reviews and opinions from travelers on TripAdvisor.com™."  How cool is that?!  How many times have you been pleased with a product or service, but never took that next step to write a review online?  I mean, it takes time, and you have to really feel strongly about it, right?  So this is the ultimate honor - knowing that our guests felt passionate enough about their experience at our hotel, that they wanted to share it with everyone else.  We are just so grateful!

"We are thrilled to see that our guests care enough about their positive experiences to share them with others,” said General Manager, Andrew Davidson. “We are very proud of our talented associates and the excellent service they provide every day."  Hear-hear; I second that!  Thanks to all our great associates that create this wonderful environment that keep our guests coming back (and going online to rave).

Newest Family Member: Chef Jean-Claude Plihon

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce you to the newest addition to our Grand Hyatt DFW family.  Our new executive chef!

Jean-Claude Plihon

And yes, he's French!  We're so fortunate to have Chef Plihon on our team and hope that you will stop by the Grand Met restaurant to welcome him to Dallas and sample the delicious fare.

Also, Chef Plihon conducts our Epicurean Studio Cooking School classes.

Press Release excerpt below:

Prior to joining the Grand Hyatt DFW, Plihon spent 12 years with Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, most recently as executive chef at Fairmont Heliopolis and Fairmont Towers Hotels in Cairo, Egypt. In addition to Egypt, Plihon has held culinary positions spanning the globe in locations such as Barbados and France, and domestically in Florida and California.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jean-Claude to the Grand Hyatt DFW team”, says Andrew Davidson, General Manager. “His extensive international experience in luxury hotels will enhance our culinary operation and expand our ability to cater to our diverse clientele.”

Plihon graduated from the Culinary School of ChambĂ©ry, France and trained under Michelin star rated chefs, Roubatcheff and Banzo.

When he's not working his culinary magic at the hotel, Chef Plihon spends his time with his wife and three children, ages 8, 9 and 12.

Giving Back: Kids Wish Network

The Grand Hyatt DFW is committed to offering assistance to those in need whenever possible.  So we were delighted when we were contacted by this organzation recently with the opportunity to assist in granting a wish for a 5-year-old boy named Donovan.  Here's a little bit more about him (courtesy of Kids Wish Network):

"Donovan is a fun-loving 5-year-old with a rambunctious, outgoing personality. He’s a big “Transformers” fan and can always be found with a toy from the movie nearby. Donovan also loves playing baseball and spending time with his 2-year-old brother.

At three months old, Donovan was diagnosed with having Cystic Fibrosis. This inherited disease clogs the lungs and digestive system, often leading to other life-threatening illnesses. Donovan must endure percussion vest treatments, twice daily breathing treatments and is on many different medications for this condition. In addition, Donovan’s condition also affects his body’s ability to absorb the necessary nutrients in food, so he must be fed via feeding tube.

For his wish, Donovan wanted to take a trip to Florida with his family to visit all the theme parks. Get ready to experience the magic, Donovan, because your wish is about to come true!"

Donovan and his family will be flying to Florida via DFW Airport, and we are pleased to be able to play a small role in granting this wish by providing a comfortable stay before their early morning flight and complimentary parking while they are enjoying the Florida sunshine!

Donovan is just one of the many children this organization is trying to assist.  The Network's wish kids are between the ages of 3 and 18 with life-threatening illnesses.  If you would like to know more about Kids Wish Network, please visit its website.  May all the children's wishes be granted!
